the rod slips to far into the bonnet catch and that means the barrel end. slightly dislocates from the turning pin. Solution. remove the bonnet lock. and put a small cable tie around the cross end on the plastic rod. Put the lock. back together and hey presto, the cable tie stops the rod sliding in to.

The only way to open a mk3 bonnet is from the front lock (wonderful idea by ford there that thankfully didn't make it to the mk4) By fair means or fowl mate, it's the only way in. Live life like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it an walk away. Save.
