Mounted to a Nikon D3x, the AF-S 70-200mm f/4G ED VR scores 19P- Mpix making it one of the sharpest 70-200mm telephoto lenses available from any manufacturer. The only other lens that comes close is Canon鈥檚 EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens at 18P-Mpix, but it comes at a price that is more than $1000USD higher.
Nikon calls this the AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED. AFS: Quiet focusing SWM (silent wave motor) with instant manual focus override. G: No aperture ring. Useless on manual focus cameras. Only works on AF cameras newer than about 1992, depending on camera. Works great on the 1988 Nikon F4 in P and S modes.
From available sharpness charts and measurements one can derive that Nikon 60 mm f/2.8G is sharper at f/2.8 compared to 24-70 mm at f/2.8. It has also superior corner performance. Tamron for example is suffering from focus breathing at close distance therefore, as a result, both lenses will be very close considering maximum range for zoom.
After 3 weeks travel, the Autofocus Motor what I ordered from eBay arrived. Last week I replaced it and finally the Nikon 24-70G recovery and work like a charm. Focusing Motor SWM Unit For Nikon 24-70mm F2.8G ED:
